  • How are Osteopaths regulated?

Patients can feel assured Osteopaths are regulated just like other healthcare clinicians for example  nurses, pharmacists, and GPs. We are qualified and insured to follow strict clinical standards which are there to protect patients. We will diagnose you to ensure we have eradicated any red flags and choose the most suitable treatment for you. It may mean we have to refer you if we feel you need specialist tests etc.. such as MRI scans

We are regulated by General Osteopathic council (GOsC) and it’s against the law to be an Osteopath if you’re not qualified and registered with GOsC. We complete a four- or five-year degree with 1000 hours of supervised clinical practice so we are confident to begin practice straight away once qualified. There is also  continued learning and expanding knowledge completing  minimum of 30 hours of continued professional development.

  • How does Osteopathy differ from Chiropractic treatment and physiotherapy?

It is very similar in that we have the same goals for our patients. Osteopaths are mainly trained to examine with an orthopaedic approach alongside radiography and radiology however Chiropractors train to take and read X rays which may be important in more trauma and pathological cases. Our treatment approach has similar techniques such as manipulation of joints and working mechanically to eradicate any issues within the Spinal column causing imbalance to the Central nervous system.

  • What should I wear?

Anything you’re comfortable in such as loose or sports clothing

  • What will happen at the first appointment?

We will go through a case history where we need to find out more about you, your lifestyle and your general health and presenting symptoms. This will help us understand the source of your pain and establish whether Osteopathy will benefit you.

We will examine you physically and assess through various tests to find the cause and also how other areas in the body may be dysfunctional perhaps causing disharmony within the systems in the body as a whole. We will then treat you using hands on manipulation, massage and stretching and providing relief for your symptoms and working holistically throughout to ensure prevention for longevity. We also may give you exercises and advice on posture and if we may need to refer, we will discuss the options with you.

  • How many treatments will I need and will they tell me what’s wrong with me?

Everyone is very different however we recommend between 3-4 treatments depending on the severity of your symptoms. We will discuss your diagnosis and prognosis with a short term treatment plan.  We will also give you our expert advice and also discuss a medium- and long-term plan for maintenance treatments once you are pain free.

  • How much does it cost?

An initial consultation is £75 and thereafter follow up treatments are £55 for 40 mins and £40 for 30 mins.
